Zonet ehf. is an Icelandic music publisher, producer, and distributor. We release, promote, and license Icelandic music — helping artists reach listeners at home and audiences far beyond the island.
Zonet was founded on 1 October 2001 by Óttar Felix Hauksson, a figure woven into Icelandic pop for more than half a century — from the awakening years of the late 1960s, through decades of concerts and productions, to the founding of Zonet itself. That long apprenticeship in the music of Iceland is the foundation the company is built on.
In its early years Zonet grew quickly, acquiring the respected distributors Japis (2002) and the music arm of Edda Miðlun (2003), and taking an active hand in making the records it released. Titles it produced and distributed climbed to the top of the Icelandic charts — among them KK & Magnús Eiríksson's 22 ferðalög, the best-selling Icelandic record of 2003, the 40th-anniversary album from the legendary Hljómar, and The Very Best of Robertino, which sold gold in just fourteen days.
Zonet's catalogue reaches well past Iceland: its recordings have been licensed to Denmark, Finland, China, Russia, Japan, and Canada. Over the years the company has worked with a wide range of Icelandic artists, from Björn Thoroddsen and Guitar Islancio to Geirmundur Valtýsson, Ásgeir Óskarsson, Mannakorn, and Ólafur Þórarinsson — beloved at home as Labbi.
